How to incorporate nautical into Fall and Winter (part 3)

Part 1 here (navy and brown) and part 2 here (pinstripes)

3. Corduroy critters! Corduroy is synonymous with fall and winter. Just add nautical critters!

Castaway Clothing has three styles of corduroy to choose from: Beachcomber Corduroy Skirt, Beachcomber Corduroy Jean Cut Pants and Beachcomber Corduroy Bootcut Pants. Choose your piece and then choose a critter! The critters below link back to the skirt.

Arctic Blue Crab:

Chocolate Lobster:

Nantucket Red Whale:

I actually wore my Vineyard Vines corduroy critter skirt to the store opening party last week (I'll be posting about it tomorrow).

I'm not seeing any critter cords at Lilly Pulitzer, J.Crew or Vineyard Vines this year :(

Are you a fan of critter clothing?

What a month!

October is always a crazy month for me and this year it has been even busier!

1. Birthdays: mine, my sister's, my mom's, and my brother in law's
2. Work: I stayed until 10/11 p.m. multiple nights and started at 7 a.m. Long days with a toddler are ROUGH! I just want to collapse on the couch and watch TV at the end of the day
3. Social/blog events: Vineyard Vines grand opening party (full post next week), launch party for this Gossip Girl inspired clothing line (recap post next week), and more (I'm writing this after a long day at work and am totally spacing and can't remember what I else I did this month).

Can you believe October is almost over?!

Lessons for my nanny

Special Guest Post by Toddler H (age 20 months)

1. If she's in a hurry I will walk even more slowly. If she gets frustrated and picks me up I will drop something to slow her down again

2. I'm not throwing food. I'm feeding the dog!
3. I stood up on the couch once. Her reaction was so priceless that I now run to the couch and try to stand on the couch whenever she turns around.
4. I say that I'm brushing her hair but it's actually more like teasing it (my mom's from Texas so I know about big hair!)
5. There is nothing wrong with trying to put toys in my diaper. What else am I supposed to do when I'm on the changing table?
6. It's really fun to leave toys on the floor in the kitchen. A secret obstacle course for her!
7. The gardener is my amigo. It would be rude if I didn't wake up from my nap and have a chat with him. I really can't sleep if I know he's outside. Naps are for babies anyway!

8. Putting on shoes is such an entertaining game. If I just curl my toes...
9. Remember that time I went to a fancy restaurant and I threw a fork at her? I was just trying to make her a stronger nanny. She always says that she can handle anything I throw in her way (wait-did she not mean that literally? Oops)
10. If it's too quiet I am concentrating really hard and probably doing something I'm not supposed to do. Just testing the baby proofing!

(this photo is old but I just love it!)

Fall TV's Most Stylish Characters

I just found this article on Entertainment Weekly and thought it would be fun to share.

The list:
Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel) on New Girl I don't watch this show but I love Zooey Deschanel's style!

Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) on Revenge Totally agree! And they've already had anchors on the show

Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) on Gossip Girl I prefer Blair but I can see how some people would like Serena's style

Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) on Hart of Dixie You know I love the clothes on this show! See my behind the scenes/on set post here

Bridget Kelly/Siobhan Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar) on Ringer I've liked some of the outfits but others have been a little out there for my taste
The Ladies of Pan Am Have this on my dvr. Excited to check it out!
Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss) on Glee I miss his warbler uniform!

My Apartment: Fall/Halloween Decorations

The past couple of weeks have been crazy at work and I am really behind in decorating. There were a few crafts I wanted to attempt for Halloween but I am running out of time. I hope I can get one done this weekend. Stay tuned!

Owl sign hanging on my front door:

My building has a courtyard and all of the apartments have large windows in the kitchen that hang over/come out (sort of like a bay window) and everyone puts plants/flowers/decorations. I have these two owls, a couple of plastic pumpkins and a little ghost (the owls and ghost hold candles)

Love/hate relationship with fall

I have a serious love hate relationship with fall. I love the cooler temperatures (ok doesn't always happen in LA but I like when it does-boots and sweaters!)

But there is one thing I really really hate (besides spiders): LACK OF NAUTICAL CLOTHING! I like to dress nautical year round. Since I live in southern California it's possible (weather wise) but SO HARD TO FIND NAUTICAL CLOTHING AFTER SEPTEMBER! Of course we have sailor striped sweaters and a few nautical critter skirts/pants but overall it's pretty disappointing. Eventually resort lines come out (PHEW) and then spring is just around the corner.

Anyone else hate that nautical pieces disappear during fall and winter? It's hard to find nautical things to post on this blog during fall (hence the other random things you are reading about).

Gossip Girl and Polyvore

I love browsing Polyvore, especially when I am looking for some new style inspiration or ways to recreate my favorite on screen looks. I thought it would be fun to post some Gossip Girl sets that I found recently. Please note: I did NOT create these sets (I am not this talented or artistic!). Do you use Polyvore? Leave me a comment with a link to your page if you do!

And SPOILER ALERT!!!! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Blair's big news! (if you aren't caught up be warned: there is a SPOILER below!)

Do you think Blair is lying about the father? And more importantly: is there really going to be a baby?!

An ode to my Vineyard Vines tote

I don't think I'll ever find a bag I love more!

My Vineyard Vines tote holds so much- with multiple pockets and a zipper top it is the perfect bag. I hate bags without pockets. Without pockets little things get lost, I can't find my phone when it's ringing and I have to dig around for my car keys when I'm running late. The Vineyard Vines tote has 3 pockets on one side (I put my wallet in the middle, blackberry on one side, and then chapstick, gum, and a pen in the other side pocket)

and then a bigger zippered pocket on the other side. Plus there's a pocket on the outside!

When traveling I can fit my laptop, magazines, a book, snacks, and more. This bag has gone around the world: Mexico to Spain, Kauai to Kusadasi (Turkey) and everywhere in between!

It's also my everyday bag. During the week it's a diaper bag filled with toys, books, wipes and snacks. It reminds me of Mary Poppins' bag-it holds everything! At the beach or pool it can fit my swimsuit bag. At the movies I can throw in a sweatshirt and water bottle. My only complaint about this tote is the color. The light color means it can get dirty faster than something darker (hint hint Vineyard Vines-maybe different tote color options in the future?)

Here's the post that Project Gadabout did on the contents of my tote (click on photo):

**this is not a sponsored post. I paid for this bag!**

Do you love your Vineyard Vines tote? What is your go to tote?

Birthday recap

My 25th (!!!) birthday was this past Saturday. I had a great weekend though I didn't take many photos. Ooops!

Thursday night I had my family celebration at Madeo (with my dad, stepmom, and sister). My mom was in New York meeting up with my other sister whose birthday was Sunday. My stepmom gave me this adorable polkadot laptop sleeve from Kate Spade

Friday I went to birthday lunch at Houstons (now closed :( Both of H's parents met us for lunch which was really nice (as nice as lunch with a toddler can ever be!). They got me Sprinkles cupcakes, flowers and these gorgeous shoes (my dream shoe!):

Friday night my friend M came over for our weekly TV night (usually Thursday but we moved it this week). I love watching my favorite shows after a long work week!

Saturday I went to see Ides of March with my dad. I had seen Farragut North, the play it is based on, when it was in LA (see recap post here). Since you know I love Ryan Gosling, it won't come as a shock that I enjoyed the movie! After the movie we went to lunch at my elementary school festival. It isn't as magical as it used to be but so many happy memories whenever I go back. Then my friend C came over and we went to dinner at Islands. We split a huge plate of cheese fries. YUM! I am having my birthday party this weekend so I decided to do something low key on my actual birthday.

Sunday I slept in really late and then went to lunch at CPK with my dad (and yogurtland after). I ran some errands and relaxed. I met my sister and brother in law for dinner at Rush Street. More delicious food! My sister got me these mugs from Anthropologie

Plus these whale/sailboat glasses (also from Anthro but are not on the website):

And this alphabet stamp set:

My other sister got me this adorable elephant ring (sorry for the blurry photo) and elephant book stamp (both were bought while she was in New York and my mom brought them home)

(stamp says "from the library of")

I still haven't decided what to do for my birthday party this weekend. I don't want to do a Halloween theme and nautical seems odd for October. hmm I better start brainstorming ideas!
