Nautical items for your fall wardrobe

I always get depressed at the end of summer because stores say goodbye to nautical and neutral colors take over (I have nothing against camel but I prefer to wear nautical navy year round ;) It is slim pickings out there but luckily I found a few nautical things that are fall/winter appropriate!

Land or Sea Bag from Modcloth (yes, those are tiny anchors!):

Two button sailor chemise from Anthropologie (LOVE this with boots when it gets cooler):

Jersey dress with belt from Target (ETA: it looks like this dress is sold out now) Alternative: Target colorblock blue and white sweater dress

How do you incorporate the nautical look into your fall wardrobe?

Linking up with Long Distance Loving Friday's Fancies!

New Additions to My Apartment (monograms and cupcakes oh my!)

PB Teen Lounge Around Slipcover I grew up calling this a backrest but I guess it's called a lounge around now? I've had the same blue one for years. The pink slipcover was on sale for $6.99 (plus free shipping!) and it perfectly matches the pink in my bedding! I decided to get my name on it too.

C.Wonder monogram decorative plate Not sure where to put this yet but I love the bright colors!

Cupcake chalkboard decal from Etsy I had one in my last apartment but it doesn't restick so I finally bought a new one. I almost don't want to write on it!

My friend H gave me these nautical (sand dollars) fabric samples (there's also a red one). I thought about framing them but my walls are pretty full. I put one on my glass table under a lamp I love how it looks!

Nautical Photo of the Week: photographer as model

This week I am featuring my friend Leanne in her nautical outfit! Leanne is my photographer friend that took the photos of me featured here and here. Leanne was wearing a nautical outfit on the day of our photo shoot so I took some photos of her! (She was wearing a red cardigan with this navy dress but it got  too hot out!)

A Cup of Jo: Nautical Bathroom

Do you read A Cup of Jo? I highly recommend you add it to your list of daily blog reads! Joanna just redid her bathroom and it is nautical perfection without going overboard! To see the before photos and design details/links go to the post here

The rope around the pole in the middle is genius! Joanna writes, "my favorite improvement was wrapping rope on the heating pipe; you can see in the "before" photos that we had ugly insulation around the pipe to keep it safe for Toby, but adding nautical rope makes the pipe look a million times better. (FYI, Apartment Therapy has a tutorial)"

Favorite Gap pants are back! 25% off & instore promotion

My favorite Gap leggings/pants are back this fall and I just stocked up again. These are the BEST pants! They feel like leggings (maybe even softer) BUT look like real pants (like actual pants, no one will think you are wearing leggings as pants). Genius! They are available in black and gray.

Right now you can get 25% off your order at Gap with code: GAPFALL25 (exp 9/9)

And in stores buy one pair, get the second 50% off!

Fall TV: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I love TV. I love coming home from work and turning on a favorite show. I love having friends over to catch up on Revenge or Modern Family. I think there are so many great shows out there. Of course there are some awful reality shows, etc but I try to focus on the ones with a bit more substance. DVR=best invention ever! I rarely watch live TV. I think I have actually cut back on my TV watching because I am not turning on the TV and channel surfing. I go immediately to my DVR and catch up on favorite shows. There will be some shows that I stop watching mid-season (because they get canceled or just plain suck!). OR I will have multiple episodes on my DVR until winter hiatus and then catch up when nothing else is on (did this with Once Upon a Time last year). I do not have time to watch all of these shows every single week! Let me repeat: I do not watch hours and hours of TV every night! (considering I work from 8-6:30 it just wouldn't be possible!)

I'll watch the first two episodes of a new show and then decide if I want to continue watching. I have bolded new shows. To see the full schedule of fall premiere dates I recommend these calendars from Watch with Kristin or TV Line. Most shows won't be premiering until mid-end of September or early October (darn you CW!). But some shows are back as early as next week so definitely check dates!

Which new shows are you most excited about????
Which shows will you miss
(am I the only one that liked Ringer?)?

What I plan to record this fall (again Thank God for DVR!):

Switched at Birth, ABC Family, 8 p.m.

NCIS, CBS, 8 p.m.
Happy Endings, ABC, 9 p.m. (October)
NCIS LA, CBS, 9 p.m.

Guys with Kids, NBC, 8:30 p.m. (Jesse Bradford and babies. Enough said.)
Law and Order SVU, NBC, 9 p.m.
Modern Family, ABC, 9 p.m.
Chicago Fire, NBC, 10 p.m. (so much HOTNESS in one show!) (October)
Nashville, ABC, 10 p.m. (October)

THURSDAY:
Last Resort, ABC, 8 p.m. (OMG Scott Speedman, my future husband, back on TV!!!)
30 Rock, NBC, 8 p.m. (October)

Island Company

I am always on the look out for new nautical companies to feature on the blog. Island Company. The name says it all! I instantly fell in love with their nautical print shift dresses and tunics. But they also have pieces that are perfect for fall: polka dots, stripes, oh my!

Their motto on a tervis tumbler:

This little aquarium castaway shift dress is the cutest print-fish!

This Coral safari shirt dress is the perfect transition piece for fall. Lightweight for warmer days but you can add a cardigan and boots when it starts to get cooler.

I am loving polkadots for fall, especially white dots on navy and camel.

I picture the polkadot tunic above and this striped tunic below with dark jeans and brown riding boots.

School has just started but I bet you are already thinking of spring break ;)

Island Company has so many different color polos to choose from. I like to wear bright colored polos to work-makes my "uniform" a bit more fun!

How cute are these shorts:?

I was sent samples of three of the sunscreens (tourist, traveler, and local). They smell SO GOOD (the traveler smells like vanilla and the tourist smells like a Banana Daiquiri)! And I love the names and descriptions. I have already used the Tourist 30 spf when I am out in the sun at the park with H!

***Please note: Island Company sent me a box of promotional items (tumbler, keychain, sunscreen) to introduce me to their company. But all opinions in this post are my own!***
