Pacific Northwest Trip: Vancouver Stanley Park

After exploring Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in the morning my sister and I headed to Stanley Park. We had the most perfect weather! The sun was shining and it seemed like everyone in Vancouver was outside enjoying the day! We ate lunch at The Prospect Point Cafe. Prospect Point is the the highest point in Stanley Park. The cafe has a beautiful panorama view right on the water (and delicious ice cream)

My Apartment: DIY Nautical Wallpaper Lamp Shade Project

Nautical by Nature: DIY Nautical Wallpaper Lamp Shade Project

I mentioned on Tuesday that I am attempting more DIY projects. Kimberly of Kimberly Lewis Home sent me a sample of her nautical Set Sail wallpaper. The Set Sail design is available in two colors. I chose the navy and knew right away what I wanted to attempt: a "new" lamp shade. When I added the wooden monogram above my bed I switched out the monogrammed lamp shade I had for a simple white one. I was planning on getting a different lamp shade but the white one worked while I was searching.

Side note: I love that in the before shot I was reading Insurgent and in the after shot I am reading Allegiant

The Set Sail pattern in navy was perfect for my DIY project-it matches my bedding and the wooden monogram I spray painted navy.

I followed directions from this Better Homes and Gardens article on Projects Using a Roll of Wallpaper.

Step 1 was tracing the lamp shade in pencil (I rolled it across slowly tracing the top all the way and then the bottom all the way)

Step 2: cut out the shape. I added a little bit of extra so I could fold it over the lamp shade at the top and bottom

I didn't take a photo of step 3 but I used Scotch Spray Adhesive that I bought at Michaels to attach the paper to the lamp shade. It took a few attempts to line everything up correctly. I highly recommend having a second person help you if you are a perfectionist (I am not).

Pacific Northwest Trip: Vancouver Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Our first day, Saturday, we drove from the Seattle airport up to Vancouver, stopping at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. We arrived in Vancouver just in time to see the sun setting. The city looked beautiful!
Pacific Northwest Trip: Vancouver

We checked into the Georgian Court Hotel and then walked to a late dinner at Nicli. Delicious Neapolitan pizza. Perfect meal to end our long travel day. I cannot say enough good things about our hotel. It was so quiet-even on a Saturday night. We stayed on the Orchid Floor which included a bunch of extras: a flat iron, curling iron, ladies-only emergency kits, upgraded Aveda amenities, a yoga mat, additional satin-padded and skirt hangers plus In Style and other fashion magazines. For no extra charge!

SUNDAY was our first full day in Vancouver. We had breakfast at Medina which was just around the corner from the hotel. The waffles are a must order. You can choose between eight toppings. I chose the dark chocolate and milk chocolate lavender.

I took this while we were waiting outside. Fresh (warm) waffles!
After breakfast we headed to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.

We did the Suspension Bridge, Cliffwalk, and Treetop Adventure.

The Suspension Bridge stretches 450 feet across and 230 feet above the Capilano River.
Stopped to take a selfie halfway. My sister is a bit afraid of heights so she wasn't interested (understandably) in stopping to take a photo in the middle

The Cliffwalk is the newest addition to the park. From the website: "This...cliffside journey takes you through rainforest vegetation on a series of unobtrusive cantilevered and suspended walkways jutting out from the granite cliff face above Capilano River to previously unexplored areas of the park. Not for the faint of heart, it is high and narrow and, in some sections, glass (very strong glass) is all that separates guests from the canyon far below."

5 DIY Nautical Crafts for Spring

Nautical by Nature | 5 DIY Nautical Crafts for Spring

I admit I am not very crafty. I stick to spray paint and washi tape. But I am looking to try some more advanced (for me) crafting. Last month was apparently national craft month. I bookmarked (and pinned) a bunch of different nautical crafts. Here are my top five.

Click on the title or photo to go to the original blog post for directions and additional photos.

Nautical Pallet Flags from A Diamond in the Stuff
I would LOVE to add these to the mostly blank wall above my bed! Courtney chose three designs that she liked the best. I think choosing the letters that make up your monogram would be fun too

Nautical Basket Liner from Enjoy the View
What an easy way to transform a simple basket! The red, white, and blue makes me think of summer so I would use a basket like this to store flip flops or beach/pool basics. Grab and go!

Nautical Wreath from Making the World Cuter
I have always wanted to make my own wreaths. I almost made one of the Christmas ornament ones but got sick and ran out of time this year. I think this fabric/jute cord wreath would be the perfect place to start!

Nautical Cork Board Coasters from Kraftie Katie
Entertaining this spring or summer? I bet your guests would love to use these coasters! They would be a fun party favor too

Nautical Magnets from A Forest Full of Songbirds
Jenn found these adorable wooden shapes at her local Michaels for just $.29 each! This would be an easy craft to do with kids. Jenn had her daughter use water paints to decorate the shapes

Pacific Northwest Trip: Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

The first day of our trip I met my sister at the airport in Seattle and we drove up to Vancouver, Canada. We stopped at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon (60 miles north of Seattle and 70 miles south of Vancouver). The traffic was INSANE but with the sun shining the tulips were a must see
