I mentioned on Tuesday that
I am attempting more DIY projects. Kimberly of
Kimberly Lewis Home sent me a sample of her nautical
Set Sail wallpaper.
The Set Sail design is available in two colors. I chose the navy and knew right away what I wanted to attempt: a "new" lamp shade. When I added
the wooden monogram above my bed I switched out the monogrammed lamp shade I had for a simple white one. I was planning on getting a different lamp shade but the white one worked while I was searching.

Side note: I love that in the before shot I was reading Insurgent and in the after shot I am reading Allegiant |
The Set Sail pattern in navy was perfect for my DIY project-it matches my bedding and the wooden monogram I spray painted navy.
I followed directions from
this Better Homes and Gardens article on Projects Using a Roll of Wallpaper.

Step 1 was tracing the lamp shade in pencil (I rolled it across slowly tracing the top all the way and then the bottom all the way) |

Step 2: cut out the shape. I added a little bit of extra so I could fold it over the lamp shade at the top and bottom |
I didn't take a photo of step 3 but I used Scotch Spray Adhesive that I bought at Michaels to attach the paper to the lamp shade. It took a few attempts to line everything up correctly. I highly recommend having a second person help you if you are a perfectionist (I am not).
