Love/hate relationship with fall

I have a serious love hate relationship with fall. I love the cooler temperatures (ok doesn't always happen in LA but I like when it does-boots and sweaters!)

But there is one thing I really really hate (besides spiders): LACK OF NAUTICAL CLOTHING! I like to dress nautical year round. Since I live in southern California it's possible (weather wise) but SO HARD TO FIND NAUTICAL CLOTHING AFTER SEPTEMBER! Of course we have sailor striped sweaters and a few nautical critter skirts/pants but overall it's pretty disappointing. Eventually resort lines come out (PHEW) and then spring is just around the corner.

Anyone else hate that nautical pieces disappear during fall and winter? It's hard to find nautical things to post on this blog during fall (hence the other random things you are reading about).

Gossip Girl and Polyvore

I love browsing Polyvore, especially when I am looking for some new style inspiration or ways to recreate my favorite on screen looks. I thought it would be fun to post some Gossip Girl sets that I found recently. Please note: I did NOT create these sets (I am not this talented or artistic!). Do you use Polyvore? Leave me a comment with a link to your page if you do!

And SPOILER ALERT!!!! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Blair's big news! (if you aren't caught up be warned: there is a SPOILER below!)

Do you think Blair is lying about the father? And more importantly: is there really going to be a baby?!

An ode to my Vineyard Vines tote

I don't think I'll ever find a bag I love more!

My Vineyard Vines tote holds so much- with multiple pockets and a zipper top it is the perfect bag. I hate bags without pockets. Without pockets little things get lost, I can't find my phone when it's ringing and I have to dig around for my car keys when I'm running late. The Vineyard Vines tote has 3 pockets on one side (I put my wallet in the middle, blackberry on one side, and then chapstick, gum, and a pen in the other side pocket)

and then a bigger zippered pocket on the other side. Plus there's a pocket on the outside!

When traveling I can fit my laptop, magazines, a book, snacks, and more. This bag has gone around the world: Mexico to Spain, Kauai to Kusadasi (Turkey) and everywhere in between!

It's also my everyday bag. During the week it's a diaper bag filled with toys, books, wipes and snacks. It reminds me of Mary Poppins' bag-it holds everything! At the beach or pool it can fit my swimsuit bag. At the movies I can throw in a sweatshirt and water bottle. My only complaint about this tote is the color. The light color means it can get dirty faster than something darker (hint hint Vineyard Vines-maybe different tote color options in the future?)

Here's the post that Project Gadabout did on the contents of my tote (click on photo):

**this is not a sponsored post. I paid for this bag!**

Do you love your Vineyard Vines tote? What is your go to tote?

With the blog name Beach Bum & Baby I just knew Lis was going to have a nautical party for her son, Trey!

Look at his little crab shirt!

Birthday recap

My 25th (!!!) birthday was this past Saturday. I had a great weekend though I didn't take many photos. Ooops!

Thursday night I had my family celebration at Madeo (with my dad, stepmom, and sister). My mom was in New York meeting up with my other sister whose birthday was Sunday. My stepmom gave me this adorable polkadot laptop sleeve from Kate Spade

Friday I went to birthday lunch at Houstons (now closed :( Both of H's parents met us for lunch which was really nice (as nice as lunch with a toddler can ever be!). They got me Sprinkles cupcakes, flowers and these gorgeous shoes (my dream shoe!):

Friday night my friend M came over for our weekly TV night (usually Thursday but we moved it this week). I love watching my favorite shows after a long work week!

Saturday I went to see Ides of March with my dad. I had seen Farragut North, the play it is based on, when it was in LA (see recap post here). Since you know I love Ryan Gosling, it won't come as a shock that I enjoyed the movie! After the movie we went to lunch at my elementary school festival. It isn't as magical as it used to be but so many happy memories whenever I go back. Then my friend C came over and we went to dinner at Islands. We split a huge plate of cheese fries. YUM! I am having my birthday party this weekend so I decided to do something low key on my actual birthday.

Sunday I slept in really late and then went to lunch at CPK with my dad (and yogurtland after). I ran some errands and relaxed. I met my sister and brother in law for dinner at Rush Street. More delicious food! My sister got me these mugs from Anthropologie

Plus these whale/sailboat glasses (also from Anthro but are not on the website):

And this alphabet stamp set:

My other sister got me this adorable elephant ring (sorry for the blurry photo) and elephant book stamp (both were bought while she was in New York and my mom brought them home)

(stamp says "from the library of")

I still haven't decided what to do for my birthday party this weekend. I don't want to do a Halloween theme and nautical seems odd for October. hmm I better start brainstorming ideas!

Anchors on TV

My friend M sent me an email about Amy Poehler's anchor blouse (worn on Parks & Rec). Then we saw it on Revenge! It is the Equipment Annabelle Anchors Top (can be found here and here).

Project Gadabout

Last week I was the featured Glamorous Gadabout over at Project Gadabout. Poppy is so creative-each post is a work of art! I don't know how she has the time to put together such amazing posts! All I had to do was answer some questions and then she did the rest! Each post looks like it's from a magazine and I love how everything turned out (hmm maybe I need to look into using something a little more fancy!)

Here are a few examples:

Port Winsor

I knew it would be love as soon as I saw the Port Winsor logo:

The founders, Katie and Lindsay, were inspired by their childhoods in New England, spending summers on Cape Cod, the prep school years, and an appreciation for things that get better with time.

Nautical Outfit of the Week: That Short Blonde Girl

This week I am featuring Elizabeth from That Short Blonde Girl. I absolutely love her OOTD posts and am so jealous she can fit into kids clothes and shoes!

This photo was taken at Boston College (Liz has her heart set on BC for grad school!). She is wearing a striped sailor shirt from a little boutique in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, called Christina's, Ltd. Liz says she put together this outfit with the idea of appropriating nautical for fall- hence the brown tights, corduroy skirt and boots.

Gossip Girl by Romeo & Juliet Couture Collection

Have you seen this new collection? The CEO of Romeo & Juliet Couture describes the collection as "inspired by the modern and sophisticated young women portrayed in the show Gossip Girl." If you like Serena's style then I think you'll love this collection. I didn't see any Blair in the preview photos but I am hoping there will be more Blair inspired outfits when the whole collection is launched.

Sequins, stripes, and glitter=Serena!

I think this dress is supposed to be more Blair inspired. Yay or nay?

Have you seen the collection? Do you think it's more Serena? Whose style do you like more: Serena or Blair? I think Blair's style looks better on me but Serena has had some looks that I really wish I could pull off!
